How Firm a Foundation

"Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock." Matthew 7:24

Men don't cry. Well, that's a lie because I cry. I cried when our little daughter started preschool and I didn't see her for a couple of hours. I cried when she went to school camp for a week. I cried when she went to Bolivia on a mission trip for two weeks. And I'm about to cry when she goes to college in Keene, TX in a little while. Did I do all I needed to do for her? Did I teach her all I needed to teach her? Did I prepare her well to face the world? Did I prepare her for the dating phase?

Today's message is not by me, but by Jen Wilkin, because she writes in such a clear and beautiful way, better than I could ever explain it. Special thanks to Sarah Jasso for posting the link in her page. This message is important for young couples, specially for the dads out there. Please read her blog and then return to listen to this beautiful arrangement of "How Firm a Foundation" by Rebeca Bonam.

On Daughters and Dating: How to Intimidate Suitors

By the way, a few days after we brought our baby daughter from the hospital, I took her in my arms, and we had our first father-daughter dance to the notes of "How Firm a Foundation" recorded by Rebeca Bonam. Now my daughter and I are playing her piano duet, before she goes away.

1
How firm a foundation, ye saint of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said,
To you who for refuge to Jesus hath fled?

2
"Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed;
For I am thy God, and will still give thee aid;
I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Up held by My righteous, omnipotent hand."

3
"When thro' the deep waters I call thee to go
The rivers of sorrow shall not over flow;
For I will be with thee, thy troubles to bless,
And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress."

4
"When thro' fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply;
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine."

5
"The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to His foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I'll never, no never, no never forsake!"
